How to post on Instagram with a computer? (PC and Mac)
You want to save time in animating your Instagram account by posting your posts directly from a computer, whether it is a PC or a Mac ?
You have come to the right place.
For many reasons, it can be extremely interesting to prioritize the publication of photos & videos from a computer, in particular because:
- you create your visuals with a tool like Photoshop or Canva
- you prefer to write your captions of publication with a keyboard
- you want to schedule your publications for distribution in the future
In this article, I will introduce you the different ways to post on Instagram from a computer, with online services belonging to the social network but also free external tools.
Prerequisite: convert your Instagram account into a professional profile
For several years now, Instagram has offered account holders to switch to the professional profile to access more features, such as the ability to access performance statistics, the addition of additional contact information and the ability to use additional tools to post from a PC or Mac computer.
The procedure to convert your account is not complicated, but it will impose the fact that it must not be private.
To be able to post on Instagram from a computer, first go to your profile, click on:
- the three lines at the top right of your screen
- then on “Settings”
- then click on “Account”
- then on “Switch to professional account”
1) With the Facebook Creator Studio
The Facebook Creator Studio is a free tool offered as its name suggests by Facebook, allowing you to:
- publish and schedule on Facebook & Instagram from a computer
- access statistics of performance of your Facebook & Instagram posts
- manage your private messaging Facebook & Instagram
In our case, the feature that will interest us is the ability to post and schedule on Instagram from a computer .
Anyone administering a Facebook page will be able to access Creator Studio.
When you log into the platform, you will most likely land on the area reserved for Facebook. To switch to features reserved for Instagram, click on the corresponding tab at the top of the screen as shown below:
Facebook may ask you to sync your Instagram account at this time, if you haven’t already.
Then you will access the following screen:
You will have the choice between poster:
- a classic photo / video post
- an IGTV
You will then be asked to choose the Instagram account to which you want to publish from a computer (PC or Mac):
Once done, you can write your caption and add the photos & videos of your choice.
You will even be offered on this occasion the possibility of scheduling the publication for a later broadcast:

This step is not at all mandatory for posting to Instagram from a computer, but it is useful if you plan to manage Instagram from a PC or Mac in the future.
To post to Instagram from your computer with Hootsuite, click on the green “New Post” button located at the top right of your screen:
