Instagram trends for the next 5 years
Trying to predict the future is difficult, especially when it comes to rapidly changing social networks. We tried to predict how Instagram marketing will develop in the next 5 years based on the data we have now.
1. Video content is the future of Instagram
Although Instagram was created as a social network for publishing photos, the share of video content, for example, in the Russian-speaking segment is more than 13 percent and this figure is constantly growing.
The increase in video content is a global trend, and it’s no surprise that Instagram is heading in that direction. At the time of this writing, the social network has the following options for publishing videos:
- Videos in posts (no more than a minute long).
- Video to Stories (no more than fifteen seconds long).
- IGTV (10 minutes for unverified accounts; 1 hour for verified accounts).
- Reels (no more than 15 seconds).
2. Online shopping on Instagram
Social media is increasingly commercialized, and Instagram is no exception. The developers have been testing the possibility of creating a “Store” by brands for a long time, and in November 2020 this format officially became available to residents of Russia.
A social network as a glossy magazine with the ability to immediately make a purchase is a real trend that, in our opinion, will only grow stronger.
3. Augmented reality
Instagram masks appeared in 2017 and since then their popularity has been gaining momentum. And if initially this function was available to brands, now any user has the opportunity to create their own AR-mask.
The prospects for content in augmented reality format are very good, not only within the social network, but in general. And although the possibilities of using the format are not yet fully understood, it is already clear that this trend will gain popularity.
4. Online Brands
Brand presence on Instagram is a must. But if earlier it was possible to create a page “for show” and maintain it formally, now users want to be in touch with brands online.
Instant replies to messages and comments, live streams with founders and stories from outlets are not just signs of good form, but a necessity. The trend towards “proximity” will only intensify, and those companies that adopt the new rules of the game will remain afloat.
5. Bloggers sponsored by Instagram
If earlier bloggers on Instagram monetized their content as they saw fit, then in the next 5 years the rules will become stricter.
Already, we see that Instagram is creating the basis for new rules of the game: bloggers will be required to indicate the sponsor of the publication if paid for, and the social network itself will pay authors for placing ads in their IGTV videos.
Instagram is constantly evolving and the next 5 years will not be an exception. Trends that have begun recently will gain momentum, and new vectors of development will be formed on their basis – those that today cannot even be imagined.
